RID CEO Position Remains Vacant

On September 17, 2018 Joey Trapani announced to the community his resignation from RID citing personal reasons. His resignation was effective September 28, 2018. On February 6, 2019 RID released their February 2019 “VIEWS” magazine which is for RID members.

In his President's column of the February VIEWS magazine, Melvin Walker shared some announcements about the March board meeting (face-to-face) which will also have a site visit to the National Conference location for the conference happening this summer. The meeting is happening on March 13-17 of 2019 in Providence, RI.

Melvin Walker reminds members that at the last face to face meeting which happened in November, the Board had to confront the issue of the unexpected departure of their last CEO, Joey Trapani. During the November meeting, they discussed various options for short and long term solutions. RID is in a time of transition which has led the board to determine they want to possibly select a short term leader focused on the transition and then work towards selecting a long term solution. This has not been verified as a final decision by the board.

Melvin said, “We need someone who can help build bridges - both within the interpreter community, and the Deaf community. We need someone who can listen, lead, and solve problems, while making sure that diverse viewpoints are represented and valued.” (VIEWS February 2019)

He also mentioned that the board may have to wait until March (the next face to face meeting happening soon) before they come up with a firm plan for moving forward. Minutes from the board are typically available after the next board meeting (where minute approval occurs) which means it won’t be until after the April meeting that the minutes are available but it is possible they may have an announcement during or after the meeting for their members about the CEO search.
