Gallaudet and NTID/RIT Listed as Best Value College in North
Gallaudet University has another accomplishment to add to their list this year. The university has been listed as the best value college in the north under regional universities. The Best Value Colleges list was created to help pinpoint colleges in each region (North, South, Midwest, and West) and there were three colleges listed under each region. The way that the list worked is that it followed a specific calculation.
The calculation included the academic quality (indicated in the 2014 U.S. News Best Colleges ranking) and the 2012-2013 net cost of attendance. This was for the average level of need-based financial aid. That means the higher quality of a student's education and the lower it cost to obtain that education, the higher their ranking on the list was.
The only way a school would be listed is that they had to be ranked in or near the top half of their categories. That means each college that was listed had to be above average academically. Congratulations to Gallaudet University for making the list and making the community proud to be listed as the best value college of the north by U.S. News.

Getting a closer look at the ranking list, the reason why Gallaudet University ranked number one is because of the cost of attendance. It only costs 11,900 after receiving grant based on needs. And the percentage of students obtaining need-based grants is 74.7%. Gallaudet University also ranked 22nd on the list of regional universities in the north.
Another university that has a large population from this community, Rochester Institute of Technology, placed number four on the list which means the university is not far behind Gallaudet in value! RIT's cost of attendance after students receive grants based on need is $27,083 and roughly 65% of the students receive grant based on needs. Rochester Institute of Technology can also boast being in the top ten regional universities in the north at number seven.
The Rochester Institute of Technology emphasizes co-op experiences in many of its academic programs. Students may also complete accelerated degree programs to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree. (US News Ranking and Reviews)
