Google Spreads Once More
At an I/O Conference that occurred on June 25th to 26th, which is a developer conference held by Google annually, Google announced that it would be expanding its Android platform into new markets. Google also showcased its upcoming new version of the Android operating system, its development project is currently called Android L.
This new operating system will include a major overhaul of the operating system user interface, include new features such as a "kill-switch" so if the phone is lost or stolen, all it takes is a simple verified request to the carrier to carry out that operation and it will render the phone useless.
The new operating system will help enable Google to entrench itself in the nascent wearable technology market, vehicles and TV. The developers have made this possible by restructuring the way the operating system works. The new OS will abandon the old Dalvik runtime in favor of the new ART (Android Run Time) runtime software library, the OS should launch and run apps much faster based on its new ART runtime framework.
Android L will also help Google push into the enterprise environment by incorporating the "bring your own device" culture. This will enable employees to utilize personal data and business data side by side without inconvenience on their personal smartphones. This technology is built on Samsung's Knox platform which is part of the Android OS now. The platform offers enterprise level security for personal users. The Samsung Galaxy lineup already carries the feature.
If the community recalls to the time of the 1990's where there were some watches on the market that could control the TV, then it will be worth to note that the new OS will implement similar features where the wearer can operate the TV and possibly the set top box directly from the watch. The original watches utilized infrared blaster technology and that was a hit and miss, and did not gain traction in the market. However, with the available wireless technology now, it will be much more fluent in utilizing the new feature via bluetooth and/or wifi home networking.
As always, Google is always looking for ways to maximize its influence in the consumer market. All this is made possible by Google's recent purchase of Nest Labs. This is just Google refining its software platform to be more interoperable and utilize new features that will benefit the business culture and the home user at home and on the road.
