Attending the NAD conference also means attending elections for the new NAD board this year. The new candidates are running for the 2014-2018 term.

"The NAD Elections Committee is thrilled to announce the candidates for the upcoming election that will take place during #NAD2014. Available positions are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Region I Representative, Region II Representative, Region III Representative, and Region IV Representative. " (NAD Announcement)

NAD Regions

Their committee has released the current candidate list and so far there is only one candidate for each position with exception to the Region IV. There is no representative for that region so it is recommended that if people are interested, to email the NAD elections committee and submit required documents. The document must be submitted by noon on June 30, 2014.

Their "call for candidates" only indicates one document that is needed which is the candidacy form. If anybody is interested in running for a position, they need to complete the candidacy form online before the deadline. Be sure that you meet these requirements before you put in the effort to apply for the position, Region IV Representative.

1. Individuals who are interested in running for a position must have been a member of the NAD for a minimum of 2 years at the time of election, and also a member of either a State Association or an Organizational Affiliate of the NAD for a minimum of 2 years at the time of election.
2. Interested individuals may run for more than one position. The elections will start with the president position and then subsequent positions in the order listed in the guidelines. Careful consideration in selecting a position(s) is encouraged.
3. Individuals may campaign for the position they are running for. Additional information about campaigning is included in the guidelines.    (NAD Call for Candidates)

Elections for regional representatives are every two years but each term lasts four years. This happens because there are two representatives for each region. One region representative will be elected for four years and then two years later, the other representative is elected for the following four years. This enables overlapping of representatives to ensure continuity of projects and programs that might be ongoing.

Getting involved with NAD is as simple as being involved on the committee and/or getting on the board. Get excited and be sure to check out the elections at the NAD conference even if you decide not to be a candidate.
