Show Appreciation for Teachers Today
May 6, 2014 is Teacher Appreciation Day which falls on the first Tuesday of May every year during National Teacher Week. In 1980, the National Education Association (NEA) lobbied congress to create a national day to honor educators. Teachers have been calling for a national day to appreciate their profession as far back as 1944.
The same year that NEA lobbied Congress, the first ever Teacher Appreciation Day fell on March 7. For five years, America celebrated Teacher Appreciation day in March. In 1985, it was decided to move the event to the beginning of May. There are many ways for people to be able to share their appreciation for the cornerstone of Education in America.
Take some time today and thank teachers around the world for their hard work! People wouldn't be as successful as they are today without at least one wonderful teacher in their life!
